Discovering the Strands of Music

Most of my posts are cover songs, with the occasional exception.

Oh, and I'm from Toronto. I love this city. If you search #toronto, you'll find a plethora of Toronto talent!

I'm mostly into soul, r&b, hip-hop, and reggae. But, I do enjoy the occasional pop, rock, and bossa nova track!

  • Matisse & The Playground, J*Davey and Nirvana “Smell Like Teen Spirit”

    I remember when Shuffle Parties in Toronto were the bomb-diggity!  I swear we’d go every month before it got too well known and too packed.  Before that happened, they used to have live sets of cover songs that really blew you away.  One that stood out to me, was Matisse & The Playground’s cover of Nirvana’s “Smells like Teen Spirit”.  It’s mostly an instrumental cover, but the vocals in the background really do the song justice.

    Another cover that was just recently given to me, was J*Davey’s.  Now, THIS is a really dope track!  There’s something about women covering men’s songs that get to me.  I guess hearing a feminine take on it makes it sound different, but in some cases better.
